Great pictures sell properties more easily: Tips for amateur real estate photographers (Part 1 of 3)


Making a good first impression is important, right? The same goes for the images on your direct mail. You don’t have to be a professional photographer or a graphics design artist to create attractive property pictures. Just by following some basic guidelines, you too, can make direct mail images that will have your customers saying “WOW”.

Better images will lead to a better response rate.

You know the old adage about not judging a book by its cover? While this is good advice, the reality is people use their first impression to judge things all the time. This is why it is imperative that you have a high quality image that will grab your audience’s attention. Otherwise, you’re the book that gets left on the shelf.

Tip 1: Composition

Composition is an important factor to take into account when shooting property pictures. When you are taking a picture of a house, envision it as if you are placing a frame around the photo. Make sure you line the house up properly and that it is not off center. A clean shot of the house will attract more buyers than one that has too much clutter in the picture. Remove any excess equipment from around the yard. The goal is to keep it simple and neat. Try to keep distractions such as telephone poles or other homes out of the scene, the image should be solely on the subject house.

For interior shots you want to make sure that the room is clean and not cluttered. Try and take a less is more approach to how the room is decorated. It’s also helpful to have an object such as a table or chair in the foreground, this will provide some perspective in the room.
