Users of Windows 95/98/ME

If you installed the new version (current offering) of Quiklinx 3.0 from our website, you will need to read and follow the instructions below. This particular issue is being researched, when an easier solution is found, it will be made available to you, our customers. We apologize for any inconvenience.

The Problem

The splash printer driver that installs with Quiklinx 3.0 will not function properly.
If you click Start/Settings/Printers, and right click on the Splash printer and choose 'Properties'
and/or try to change settings, you get the error that the driver could not be initialized and needs to be reinstalled.

The Fix

You will need to delete the Splash printer driver that you have, and download and reinstall with the Win95/98/ME version.

Note: When deleting any printer, it may say that there are other files no longer needed, would you like to delete these too? No, you do not, this is potentially hazardous to Windows.

Step by Step (for those with the new Quiklinx installed and a non-functional Splash on Windows 95/98/ME)

  • Click Start/Settings/Printers
  • Right click on the Splash printer and choose 'Delete'
  • Close the Printers window
  • Open Internet Explorer and go to www.expresscopy.com
  • Click on the Support and F.A.Q.'s tab
  • Click on 'Printer Drivers' under 'Downloads'
  • Click on 'Splash DC v2.0 for Windows95/98/ME'
  • Choose 'Save File to Disk'
  • Put the file somewhere easy to get to (i.e. My Documents, Desktop)
  • After the download is complete, double click the file (splashdrv.exe)
  • Click 'Unzip'
  • Click OK to the "x files unzipped successfully" message
  • Click Close
  • Click Start/Settings/Printers
  • Double click the Add Printer icon
  • Click 'Next' to the initial wizard screen
  • Choose Local Printer and click 'Next'
  • When you see the Manufacturers screen, click 'Have Disk'
  • Replace A:\ with C:\splash and click 'OK'
  • Click 'Next' when it displays Splash DC v2.0
  • Locate and select FILE: Creates a file on disk instead of the default LPT1 port
  • Choose No for making the Splash your default printer
  • Choose No for printing a test page
  • If you get any "File version conflicts", say Yes to keep the newer files

Note- If the program you use to make flyers/postcards is open during this time,
you will need to close it and reopen it, for that program to see the newly corrected Splash

Jagged Fonts on Publisher 97 Files (Windows98)

Important! Sometimes the fonts in files created in MS Publisher print out with jagged edges. This is most likely caused by a wrong setting in the Splash printer. For Windows98 users:

  1. Click "Start", go to "Settings" and click "Printers".
  2. Right-click the Splash and select "Properties."
  3. In the properties box that comes up, click "Fonts" and hit the "send fonts as" button.
  4. The number in the "threshold" box should be changed to 1 instead of 100. Be sure to hit "apply" after that, if possible.

This setting is not available on the Splash NT driver, which is the one people who have Windows 2000 will be using. Jagged fonts may not be an issue with Windows 2000.
