Choosing a Targeted Mailing List

Learn how to select a well-targeted mailing list for your postcard marketing campaign

1. Know Your Customers

Before you can unearth new customers, first you need to know where your current customers came from. If you haven't already done so, make short customer surveys part of your marketing plan. Whether it's an online survey, a couple questions planted during the checkout process, or simply chatting up the folks who walk into your shop, find out why they chose you over your competitors.

Knowing what influences their buying decisions will help you when you go looking for new customers because you'll know what is libel to spark their interest and you'll be prepared to overcome their objections even before they have them. Not only will you be able to create a more carefully targeted mailing list, but you'll also know how to tailor your message.

2. Start Local

This is a no-brainer for retail stores, but it applies equally to online and national businesses. Increasingly, consumers are looking to "buy local" (trust us, it's out of control here in Oregon!). They tend to trust local merchants, they know they'll get better service, and they like helping their local economy.

Expresscopy.com mailing lists begin with a geographical center-point. We'll show you what your "radius" looks like based on the number of postcards you wish to mail.

3. Now Target!

Take a moment to consider what your best customers have in common. Do they fall within a certain age range? Do they live in a specific part of town, or immediately around your location? Perhaps you're after a particular type of businesses. With over 184 million residential records and 22.4 million business leads from the nation's leading data providers, your mailings will hit their mark, reaching only the most qualified prospects.

With expresscopy.com, you can target:
  • New homeowners who bought a home within a specific price range
  • Established homeowners who may be ready to refinance, move, or remodel
  • Families with children
  • Families with a specific income or net worth
  • Adults approaching retirement age
  • Minority-owned businesses with a specified sales volume and number of employees
No matter what your niche, expresscopy.com Targeted Mailing Lists can help you reach it.

4. But Don't Target Too Much

While, as you can see, it is possible to target very specific demographics, keep in mind that, the more specific you get, the farther away you will need to mail to find those businesses or consumers. "Brick-and-mortar" retailers that depend on local business should have a sense of how far potential customers are willing to travel to take advantage of your goods and services.

Once you start targeting your address list in the order process, look for the "sweet spot" between being highly targeted and staying local.

5. Don't Waste Postcards on People That Don't Exist!

Many competitors charge extra for "special" services like CASS certification and de-duping address lists. But, with expresscopy, we automatically de-dupe your list (whether you purchase a targeted list, or upload your own), CASS-certify all address lists, and let you choose your generic addressee line.

And best of all, we only charge you for the actual quantity of postcards mailed! Why pay for printing and postage to an invalid or outdated address? With expresscopy.com direct mail campaigns, you're not paying for postcards, you're paying for actual targeted leads.
